The summit platform wraps around the base of the 30-metre statue at 710 m, with a 360° panorama: Sugarloaf and Guanabara Bay to the east, the Lagoa and Ipanema/Leblon beaches to the south, Maracanã and the sprawl of the Zona Norte inland, and the green wall of Tijuca — the world's largest urban forest — directly below. On a clear morning you can pick out planes landing at Santos Dumont far beneath your feet.
For the photo everyone wants — you, arms out, mirroring the statue — stand about 20 metres back on the lower viewing tier rather than directly beneath it; the wider angle fits the whole figure in without a neck-craning tilt. Go at the 8 AM first slot: the light is soft, the platform is near-empty, and you beat both the tour buses and the midday cloud that regularly swallows the peak.
