Barra da Tijuca is the Miami of Rio — a 30 km stretch of Atlantic beach lined with modern condos, malls the size of city blocks, and some of the country's most powerful private schools. It's where wealthy Cariocas moved when Zona Sul got too dense, where Rock in Rio and the 2016 Olympics were staged, and where you'll find the beach postcards that don't have Sugarloaf in them. 18 km of white sand — Rio's longest beach. Wider than Ipanema, cooler water, big Atlantic waves. Postos 2–5 are safest for swimming; Postos 7–8 are surfer territory (Praia do Pepê).

Barra's western beaches — protected reserves with almost no development. Praia da Reserva is a 4 km surf beach; Prainha is a postcard cove ranked among Rio's most beautiful. Only reachable by car / Uber.
3.BarraShopping & Village Mall

Can I use Uber in Barra?+
Yes — Uber and 99 both work well throughout Barra. Since Barra is so spread out (20+ km end to end), rideshare is genuinely necessary — walking between attractions is rarely practical. Metro Line 4 helps you get to Ipanema quickly, but within Barra itself, plan on Ubers.
Is Barra good for families?+

What's the difference between Barra da Tijuca and Recreio dos Bandeirantes?+
Recreio is the neighborhood immediately west of Barra — even quieter, more beach-focused, less shopping. Recreio's beaches (Recreio proper, Reserva, Macumba) are surfer favorites. If Barra feels too built-up, Recreio is the low-key extension. Grumari is further west still, and undeveloped.
