The four-step visa check that does not go stale
1. Name the exact passport and purpose
Check the nationality and passport type you will actually present. Tourism, business meetings, journalism, study, paid work and remote work can follow different routes. Dual nationals should not assume the answer for one passport applies to the other.
2. Open the current visa-regime table

3. Follow the government-linked application path
For Australian, Canadian and US visitor eVisas, the official Ministry page links to the authorised VFS portal. Other visas may use a consular form and appointment. Never upload a passport or bank statement to a lookalike site reached only through an advertisement.
4. Recheck before departure
Save the approval in the format requested, check that names and passport numbers match, review airline document rules and confirm the visa is valid for the intended entry. Carry the supporting itinerary and accommodation details that the official instructions request.
US, Canadian and Australian visitor eVisa
Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says people using Australian, Canadian or US passports for eligible tourism or business travel became visa-required again on 10 April 2025. Its eVisa guidance lists a signed passport valid throughout the trip with two free visa pages, an online form, a passport-style photograph, flight confirmation and a recent bank statement. Requirements can differ by application location and case, so use the page for the responsible consulate.
The official US-facing guidance lists an eVisa payment of US$80.90 and asks for a bank statement showing at least US$2,000 for travel. Do not generalise that figure to every nationality or visa. A visitor visa's validity is not the same as the stay granted at the border; read the issued document and entry record separately.

Identity mismatch
The form, passport, photo and booking use different names, dates or passport numbers.
Weak image files
The passport scan is cropped or reflective, or the photograph does not meet the stated background and framing rules.
Incomplete itinerary
The arrival and departure evidence does not cover the requested visit or conflicts with the form.
Financial evidence
The statement is outside the requested period, unreadable or does not meet the requirement stated for that application.
Wrong purpose
The visitor route is used for work, study or another activity that needs different permission.

Stay length and extensions
Brazilian law can allow a visitor stay of up to 90 days and, where reciprocity permits, a Federal Police extension. That is a ceiling, not a promise for every passport. Your authorised period is the one in the migration record, and an extension is evaluated rather than automatic.
The Federal Police service asks eligible applicants to apply before expiry and lists a valid travel document, entry record, fee payment and any accommodation, means-of-support or onward-travel evidence requested by the officer. Do not build a trip around an assumed extension; confirm eligibility in the Ministry table first.
Remote work, digital nomads and tax
A visitor page should not quietly authorise work. Brazil created VITEM XIV for digital nomads working remotely for a foreign employer or client without a Brazilian employment relationship. A temporary-visa holder can become Brazilian tax-resident on completing 184 days, consecutive or not, within a 12-month period, or earlier in specific circumstances.
