The day-by-day plan
Day 1 — Arrival, Ipanema, Arpoador sunset
Land at GIG, prepaid Uber to Ipanema (~R$120, 45–70 min). Check in, walk to Posto 9, coconut water, feet in the Atlantic. Sunset at Pedra do Arpoador. Boteco dinner at Barzin or Astor. Early night — jet lag is real.
Day 2 — Christ the Redeemer + Santa Teresa + Lapa
First train up Corcovado at 08:00. Down by 11:00, Uber to Santa Teresa for Parque das Ruínas, Selarón Steps, lunch at Aprazível. Nap. Evening samba in Lapa — Rio Scenarium, Beco do Rato, or a roda under Arcos.
Day 3 — Sugarloaf, Urca sunset, Botafogo dinner
Slow morning at the beach. Cable car up Sugarloaf at 16:00 to time golden hour. Walk down to Mureta da Urca for bottle-and-sea-wall sunset. Dinner at Oteque (2 Michelin ★) or Meza Bar.
Day 4 — Tijuca Forest + Vista Chinesa jeep tour
Half-day Tijuca National Park jeep tour — Vista Chinesa, Cascatinha Taunay, Mesa do Imperador. Afternoon at Jardim Botânico. Sunset drink at Palaphita Kitch on Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.
Day 5 — Petrópolis or Niterói day trip
Choose one: Petrópolis (imperial city, 90 min north — Museu Imperial, cool mountain air) or Niterói (Niemeyer's MAC, Icaraí beach, best Rio skyline photo). Back by dinner — try Comuna in Botafogo.
Day 6 — Ilha Grande begins (overnight)
Early transfer to Angra dos Reis (~2.5 h), catamaran to Vila do Abraão. Check into pousada, hike to Praia Preta, sunset caipirinha at the pier. Dinner grilled fish at Lua e Mar.
Day 7 — Ilha Grande boat tour + Lopes Mendes

Day 9 — Big adventure day
