How to plan your Pride trip
- Fly in Thursday before the parade, out the following Wednesday — 5 nights covers Pride week + recovery + a Cristo day.
- Stay in Copacabana if walking to the parade matters most; Ipanema if beach days and food scene matter more.
- Pack light, colourful, sun-safe — parade sun is brutal, glitter is currency.
- Book Cristo/Sugarloaf/Copacabana Palace pool day before Pride Sunday (Sunday and Monday are recovery).

When is Rio Pride 2026?+
Rio's main Pride Parade (Parada do Orgulho LGBTI+ do Rio) is expected on Sunday, 22 November 2026, on the Copacabana beachfront. The full 'Semana do Orgulho' (Pride Week) runs from around 16–22 November with parties, cultural events and the parade as the finale. Dates are confirmed by Grupo Arco-Íris (organiser) each September — check their site closer to travel.
Where is the Rio Pride Parade held?+
On Avenida Atlântica, Copacabana beachfront — typically starting near Rua Djalma Ulrich (Posto 5) and moving toward Posto 6. It's completely free, open street, and family-friendly during the day (drag shows on trios elétricos, community floats), turning into a big party after sunset.
Is Rio LGBTQ+ friendly?+
Very. Rio has one of the most established LGBTQ+ scenes in Latin America — same-sex marriage since 2013, out-and-visible daily life in Ipanema/Copacabana, Farme beach as a global gay-beach icon, and long-running venues (La Cueva since 1964). That said, public displays of affection in more residential neighbourhoods draw looks; Zona Sul is completely comfortable.

Copacabana — walking distance to the parade route and the classic Copa hotels (Copacabana Palace, Miramar, JW Marriott) get booked out first. Ipanema is 5 min by Uber, calmer at night, and next door to Farme beach. Book 3–4 months ahead for Pride week.

Which is bigger — Rio Pride or São Paulo Pride?+
São Paulo is the world's biggest (3M+ people on Avenida Paulista, usually June). Rio is smaller (~1M) but on Copacabana beachfront — arguably the more spectacular setting. Many travellers do São Paulo Pride in June and return for Rio's smaller, more scenic Nov edition.
Are there Pride events outside November?+
Yes — Copacabana Pride on the beach (usually mid-year), Ipanema Pride (smaller neighbourhood march), and Réveillon (New Year's Eve) is one of the biggest queer-friendly nights of the year, with 2M+ on Copacabana beach. The scene at Farme, The Week and Galeria Café runs year-round.
