Tipping in Brazil: what is optional and what is on the bill
At a sit-down restaurant, look for a taxa de serviço line, commonly suggested at 10%. The amount is optional: you can pay it, adjust it, or ask for it to be removed. The Labour Code treats service amounts collected or added to a bill as gratuities for workers; that employment rule does not make your payment compulsory. Check the receipt before adding anything so you do not count the same amount twice.

A service fee already listed on a restaurant receipt is separate from your decision to pay it; a ride or delivery app may show a separate optional tip screen.
