    Day 1 · Arrival + Ipanema orientation

    • Land at GIG. Pre-booked private transfer to hotel (45 min, fixed price beats airport-taxi chaos).
    • Lunch: Frontera in Ipanema — R$95 buffet by weight, air-con recovery after the flight.
    • 16:00 — barefoot walk from Posto 9 → Arpoador rock. Watch the sunset applause with 500 locals.

Less than 5 nights and you'll feel rushed; more than 7 without changing base and you'll get restless.

    Where should I stay for 6 days in Rio?+

    Ipanema for the whole stay — best food, safest for evening walks, midway between Copacabana and Leblon, easy Uber to Santa Teresa. Copacabana is the second choice (more mid-range hotels, biggest beach). Don't split your base across neighborhoods on a 6-day trip; the packing/unpacking eats a half-day.

    Which day trip should I choose for a 6-day Rio itinerary?+

    Búzios if you love beaches and want easy logistics (2h each way). Petrópolis if you're beach-tired and want history/cool mountain air (1.5h). Ilha Grande only if you can add a 7th night — as a day trip, the transit ruins it (see Is Ilha Grande worth it?).

    Can I do Iguazu in a 6-day Rio itinerary?+
