Rock in Rio 2026: the complete practical guide
Day-by-day line-up, ticket reality, official transport, Barra hotels and a festival plan that still leaves room for Rio.
Quick answer
Rock in Rio 2026 runs on 4–7 and 11–13 September at Cidade do Rock in Barra da Tijuca, with a different day ticket and line-up each date. Choose the artist bill first, reserve the R$29 BRT Express or Primeira Classe transport before the event, and stay in Barra when two or more late festival nights matter more than daily beach sightseeing.
Rock in Rio is not one concert stretched across a weekend. It is seven enormous festival days with different audiences, different transport peaks and enough ground to make a badly planned visit feel like an endurance event. The useful questions are not only “Who headlines?” and “What does a ticket cost?” but also where you will sleep, how you will get your return wristband, and which sightseeing plans you will deliberately remove from the same day.
Our honest take: the event is straightforward once the big decisions are made early. It becomes stressful when a visitor stays on the far side of Rio for a bargain room, relies on a screenshot ticket, reaches Jardim Oceânico without the right BRT booking, or promises friends they can all reconnect by phone beside the main stage.

Full Rock in Rio 2026 line-up by day
The table below focuses on Palco Mundo and Palco Sunset—the two line-ups most international visitors use to choose a date. It is not a running order. The official app and festival channels remain the source for set times, clashes and late changes.
Friday 4 September
RockPalco Mundo
Foo Fighters · Rise Against · The Hives · Nova Twins
Palco Sunset
Capital Inicial + Dado Villa-Lobos · Hot Milk · Detonautas + Biquini + Di Ferrero
PlanRio verdict: The cleanest classic-rock choice and a strong opening day.
Saturday 5 September
Metal / alternativePalco Mundo
Avenged Sevenfold · Bring Me The Horizon · mgk · Sepultura
Palco Sunset
Bad Omens · Poppy · Black Pantera + Nervosa · Malvada + Day Limns
PlanRio verdict: The heaviest day; choose it for the bill, not merely because it is Saturday.
Sunday 6 September
Dance / pop / BrazilianPalco Mundo
Calvin Harris · Black Eyed Peas · Nelly · Barão Vermelho
Palco Sunset
NE-YO · Jota Quest plays Tim Maia · BaianaSystem · Calema
PlanRio verdict: Broad, nostalgic and dance-led; one of the easiest mixed-group days.
Monday 7 September
Legends / soulPalco Mundo
Elton John · Gilberto Gil · Jon Batiste · Luísa Sonza + Roberto Menescal
Palco Sunset
Laufey · Péricles sings Motown · Roupa Nova + Guilherme Arantes · Vanessa da Mata + Rubel
PlanRio verdict: A rare cross-generational line-up on Brazil's Independence Day holiday.
Friday 11 September
K-pop / global popPalco Mundo
Stray Kids · Alok · HWASA · NEXZ
Palco Sunset
Jamiroquai · PJ Morton · Os Garotin + Duquesa · Jota.pê + Luedji Luna + Zaynara
PlanRio verdict: The dedicated K-pop draw, with an unusually strong soul/funk counter-programme.
Saturday 12 September
Pop / LatinPalco Mundo
Maroon 5 · Demi Lovato · J Balvin · Pedro Sampaio
Palco Sunset
Mumford & Sons · João Gomes + orchestra · Gilsons + Daniela Mercury + Olodum
PlanRio verdict: The most mainstream pop day and a likely choice for first-time festival groups.
Sunday 13 September
Alternative popPalco Mundo
Twenty One Pilots · Halsey · Lola Young · Ivete Sangalo
Palco Sunset
Zara Larsson · Marina Sena + Céu · Joelma + Viviane Batidão
PlanRio verdict: A varied closing day with a stronger Brazilian-pop thread than the top line suggests.
Which day should you choose?
Choose 4 September for classic rock, 5 September for the heaviest bill, 6 September for dance and 2000s nostalgia, 7 September for Elton John and Brazilian legends, 11 September for K-pop, 12 September for mainstream pop and 13 September for alternative pop. If two days look equal, choose the one that creates the easier recovery and hotel plan—not the one a reseller pressures you to buy.
Do not overlook Sunset. Jamiroquai on the Stray Kids day, Mumford & Sons against a pop-heavy Mundo programme, and Laufey on the Elton John day can be the set that justifies your date.
Tickets: what the categories really mean
Gramado
R$870 full · R$435 half
General circulation and access to the festival's shows and attractions for one selected day. This is the standard ticket most visitors mean when they say “Rock in Rio ticket”.
Comfort Zone
R$1,950 full · R$975 half
Adds a dedicated lateral area near Palco Mundo plus exclusive bars and toilets. Food and drink are not included. It improves comfort, not the day line-up.
Half-price entry (meia-entrada) is a legal benefit, not a general early-booking discount. The eligible categories and accepted proof are listed in the official FAQ and documents are checked at entry. Visitors should not buy that category merely because the checkout permits it.
Ticketmaster is the only authorised sales platform. The ticket becomes available through Quentro and its QR code refreshes automatically; a screenshot cannot reproduce that. Never share the Quentro verification code with a seller or “helper”. A person transferring a valid ticket needs the email connected to your Quentro account—not your security code.
International credit cards are accepted in the published payment guidance but do not qualify for Brazilian instalment plans. A CPF may be required during account or purchase steps. Start this process while official availability exists, not in a panic after a stranger offers a Pix transfer in a social-media comment.
How to get to Rock in Rio 2026
Best value
Metro + BRT Express
Take MetrôRio to Jardim Oceânico, then the direct SE008 service. Buy the R$29 return BRT ticket in the Jaé app for your exact festival day.
Least friction
Primeira Classe coach
Executive buses leave from selected Rio and out-of-town points and arrive inside Cidade do Rock. It costs more but removes the transfer.
Weakest default
Car or ride-hailing
Road restrictions, surge pricing, phone congestion and moving pickup zones make it poor as an unplanned late-night return strategy.
The public-transport sequence
- 1. Install and update Jaé. Add balance to the Conta Transporte with Pix or credit card.
- 2. Buy BRT Expresso for the correct date. The R$29 ticket includes outward and return travel for one person on that day.
- 3. Travel by metro to Jardim Oceânico. The published metro fare is separate; the combined return total is R$44.80.
- 4. Board SE008 to Terminal Centro Olímpico. Alternative special routes leave Alvorada and Paulo da Portela.
- 5. Validate near Cidade do Rock and collect the return wristband. Do not skip this because the wristband controls boarding after the show.
- 6. Return before special BRT service ends at 04:00. Jardim Oceânico remains open for metro boarding; most other stations remain open overnight for exit only.
Our choice from Zona Sul is metro plus SE008. From a Barra hotel, compare the nearest official coach point or the Alvorada special service with a direct hotel-arranged ride. The correct answer depends on which side of Barra you booked—“Barra da Tijuca” covers a long stretch, and a cheap room near the beach is not automatically next door to Parque Olímpico.
Where to stay for Rock in Rio
| Base | Choose it when | The honest drawback |
|---|---|---|
| Barra / Camorim side | You attend 2+ days and festival logistics dominate the trip | Car-dependent and inconvenient for classic Rio sightseeing |
| Barra beachfront | You want beach recovery without returning to Zona Sul | Still not walking distance to Cidade do Rock |
| Ipanema / Copacabana | One festival day sits inside a longer first-time Rio holiday | A structured cross-city return after a very long day |
| Recreio | You found the right value and will use pre-planned road transport | No metro and not automatically easier than Barra |
For a festival-first trip, start with PlanRio's hand-picked Barra event bases. Both are on the Riocentro/Parque Olímpico side rather than the distant end of the beachfront; neither turns the city into a walking destination, so confirm your exact event transfer.

Mercure Rio de Janeiro Barra da Tijuca
Best for: Pepê beach and the most practical east-Barra base near Jardim Oceânico
Know before booking: The metro is not at the lobby, and this is the wrong end of Barra for Riocentro events.

Best for: A resort-style stay between Reserva Beach and Marapendi Lagoon
Know before booking: The property is the destination; restaurants, the metro and classic Rio sights require planned transport.

A pre-booked airport transfer is useful when you land with luggage and a festival timetable. It is not a replacement for the event's restricted-zone transport on show day.

Build a festival day that survives reality
Before leaving
- Activate Quentro and open the live ticket once.
- Save your hotel address as text, not only a map pin.
- Charge phone and power bank; update Jaé.
- Eat a proper meal and refill permitted water.
- Agree on one unmistakable meeting point.
Inside Cidade do Rock
- Walk the route between your priority stages early.
- Do not count on mobile messages arriving instantly.
- Protect hearing, skin and energy before the headline set.
- Use the official app for schedule changes.
- Begin the return while your group is still together.
What to pack—and what to leave behind
Carry
Accepted photo ID, activated Quentro ticket, charged phone, compact power bank, payment card, permitted refillable bottle or hydration solution, hearing protection, sun protection and light rain protection. Recheck the official prohibited-items list just before your date.
Leave behind
Oversized bags, loose jewellery, irreplaceable valuables, unverified food or containers and any item you merely hope security will allow. Closed comfortable shoes win over a dramatic festival outfit after ten hours on your feet.
Plan the Rio days around the festival
Keep show mornings light. A beach breakfast, short swim near your hotel or late brunch is sensible; Christ the Redeemer plus Sugarloaf before a 14:00 gate is not. Put a full Rio day before the first festival date and protect the morning after every late headline set.

Common mistakes tourists make
- Buying by “weekend” without checking the exact day ticket and line-up.
- Using an unofficial resale platform after a popular date sells out.
- Assuming Barra is a single walkable neighbourhood near the venue.
- Reaching the BRT without a Jaé account, balance or date-specific booking.
- Missing the return-wristband validation after the outward journey.
- Planning Christ, Sugarloaf and a full festival day together.
- Relying on a ticket screenshot, public Wi-Fi or one friend's phone battery.
- Expecting a roadside Uber to be simple when tens of thousands leave at once.
Frequently asked questions
When is Rock in Rio 2026?+
Rock in Rio 2026 takes place at Cidade do Rock in Barra da Tijuca on 4, 5, 6 and 7 September, then 11, 12 and 13 September. These are seven separate festival days over two weekends; a day ticket is not a weekend pass.
Who is playing Rock in Rio 2026?+
The Palco Mundo headliners are Foo Fighters on 4 September, Avenged Sevenfold on 5 September, Calvin Harris on 6 September, Elton John on 7 September, Stray Kids on 11 September, Maroon 5 on 12 September and Twenty One Pilots on 13 September. Check the official schedule for set times and changes.
How much are Rock in Rio 2026 tickets?+
The official 2026 Gramado ticket face value is R$870 full price or R$435 half price. Comfort Zone is R$1,950 full price or R$975 half price. Availability is day-specific, eligibility for half price is documented and international cards do not receive Brazilian instalment plans.
Where is Rock in Rio held?+
Rock in Rio is held at Cidade do Rock in Parque Olímpico, Barra da Tijuca. The event is in Rio's West Zone, far from Copacabana and Ipanema, which is why accommodation and return transport should be chosen together.
How do I get to Rock in Rio by public transport?+
The official 2026 public-transport route combines MetrôRio to Jardim Oceânico with the special BRT Expresso Rock in Rio. The BRT ticket costs R$29 return per person per festival day and must be bought in the Jaé app; the combined published metro-and-BRT return cost is R$44.80.
How do I get back after Rock in Rio?+
Use the return wristband issued for BRT Expresso or a booked Primeira Classe coach. Jardim Oceânico metro remains open for boarding through the night, while most other stations accept overnight passengers for exit only. Do not make a roadside ride-hailing pickup your only plan after the final headline set.
Should I stay in Barra for Rock in Rio?+
Stay in Barra if you attend two or more festival days, expect late finishes or built the trip around the event. Stay in Ipanema or Copacabana when you attend one day inside a longer Rio holiday, but budget more travel time and pre-book the official transport route.
What time does Rock in Rio open and close?+
The official 2026 FAQ lists gates opening at 14:00, the event ending at 03:00 and last admission at midnight. Individual stage times vary. Arrive early enough for security and the walk across Cidade do Rock rather than treating the headliner's set time as your arrival target.
Will a screenshot of my Rock in Rio ticket work?+
No. Rock in Rio 2026 tickets are presented in the Quentro app, where the QR code refreshes automatically. Screenshots and printouts are not accepted. Activate the ticket before leaving your accommodation and bring a charged phone plus a compact power bank.
Can foreigners buy Rock in Rio tickets?+
Foreign visitors can use the official Ticketmaster channel, but a valid CPF may be requested in parts of the purchase flow and international cards cannot use Brazilian instalment plans. Ticketmaster accepts credit card or Pix; never send Pix to a seller outside the verified checkout.
Is Rock in Rio suitable for children or wheelchair users?+
The festival provides accessibility services including adapted toilets, a Central de Acessibilidade and limited wheelchair loans, but the site is large and the day is long. Rock in Rio advises that children under five should not remain after 22:00, even when accompanied. Read the current official accessibility and age rules before buying.
