The organiser says 10% of each screening's tickets are held back for same-day in-person sale. Participating cinema box offices open one hour before the first screening of the day. Package codes are redeemed online through Ingresso.com, not at a cinema box office, and remain subject to session availability.

Where this year's screenings are—and where to stay

The 2026 circuit includes Cine Odeon and CCJF in Centro; Centro Cultural FGV, Cinesystem Belas Artes and Estação Claro Rio in Botafogo; Estação Claro Gávea; plus cinemas and cultural spaces in Catete, Santa Teresa, Laranjeiras, Penha, Complexo do Alemão, Realengo, Ilha do Governador and Niterói. The honest verdict: who should skip it?

Festival do Rio is worth planning around if you want contemporary Brazilian cinema, audience energy and films that may never receive a wide release. It is not ideal if your priority is celebrity access, English subtitles at every session or a frictionless single-campus festival. The citywide format creates discovery, but it also asks you to read maps and make trade-offs.
